“Barnegat Belle” Wins Best Restored at St. Michael’s

A rare 1946 Gar Wood 22 1/2 utility won Best Restored at the ACBS Chesapeake Bay Chapter’s annual boat show in June.  “Barnegat Belle” is owned by Chris Johnson who found the boat in south New Jersey in poor condition.  Chris rescued the boat and over a ten year period, had the boat restored.  Jim Murdoch did the rough woodwork;  the rest of the restoration was done by Cutwater Boatworks.

 

“Barnegat Belle” is powered by a Chrysler Royal straight eight.  Her very high sides make her a seaworthy boat for most boating conditions.  She is one of only six boats of this model built.
