Now that the Hemi runs well, it’s time to paint and detail it. At the customer’s request, we painted it purple like the larger displacement Hemi often found in Shepherd boats.
We used a two part automotive paint, disassembling the motor enough to paint the important parts. The black for the starter, generator, distributor and other items was a semi gloss. The brass and bronze parts were cleaned up with the wire wheel on the bench grinder and clear coated with a two part Pour-15 product. Buts and bolts were painted to match whatever the base color of the component they were going into.
All new gaskets were installed. New ignition wires, new coil, new resistor. The dual point ignition was replaced with electronic. The gear reduction started was repacked with lithium grease. The following are photos of the work in progress:
